a lot in media—some of it ground-level stuff like helping JFK Jr. with his computer at George and delivering the local paper as a kid, some of it more elevated: stints at Rolling Stone and Vanity Fair, recruiting big-name writers at Boston magazine, editing award-winning content. I love all of it—the mighty and the minute. Click below to see a few highlights from my wide-ranging career.
Special thanks [to] my editor, Don Armstrong, whose patience and encouragement kept me going when … I wanted to give up. Without his expertise and his challenging me through rewrite after rewrite, Love Never Leaves never would have been completed.

Don could be demanding. He knew when a story needed work and when it needed a hands-off approach. He also knew that with all the variety—contributors from all walks of life and all ages—something was missing, something that would tie it all together. The solution he proposed, and I accepted, was for me to write about my own experiences as a marketing consultant with Microsoft, DreamWorks and others.
He was right. That made the book click, and it has done well since being published.

The Bold Paths of 101 Superachievers
Don was my baseball editor at the Sporting News, and I say about him the very best thing I could say about any editor, and that’s that he made me mad sometimes. He did so by pushing me to get better. He believed in me before I did.
